Fashion Miscellaneous (October)

1.Best Dressed: Paris Fashion Week

It was tough to pick just five girls from Paris Fashion Week’s abundance of sartorial greatness, but the fashion experts did it again. They have a hard time ever excluding Alexa Chung, who looked adorable at Miu Miu. Lou Doillon is a Paris fashion icon in her own right and did not disappoint at Chanel. Rachel Bilson looked lovely at Dior. Anja Rubik rocked long, flowy ChloĆ© and Caroline Sieber got a head start on Spring’s white trend at Valentino.

2.Trendspotting: Monochromatic Suits

Monochromatic suits (pictured here from The Row, Stella McCartney, and Akris) were a runway trend we’ll all be happy to follow.

3.Fashion News Roundup: Steve Madden Now Controls Betsey Johnson, Rag & Bone Gets Control of Their Graffiti Problem and Pilati Not Done At YSL

Madden’s Control: Steve Madden has increased his stake in Betsey Johnson from a $48.8 million loan to ownership of the brand’s intellectual property. Through licensing deals with Betsey Johnson LLC, Madden will get royalties from Johnson’s firm and its other licensees. {WWD, subscription required}

Calling All Aspiring Muralists: Rag & Bone hopes to solve their newest store’s unwanted graffiti dilemma by taking matters into their own hands. Sick of phrases like “You Would” and “F*** Africa” being tagged on the large white space underneath “Rag & Bone Bids Farewell to Cafe Colonial…,” they will hold a competition where artists can submit their work for consideration. The art will be voted on by Rag & Bone’s Facebook fans and the winner will be provided with all necessary painting materials and a $1000 store credit. Check out their site for more info. {Rag & Bone}

Major Shuffling in Paris?
The rumor mill is running wild following speculation that Stefano Pilati is done at YSL. Apparently, that is untrue, at least for the next 3 years, which is the length of the contract he just signed. There are also rumors that Karl Lagerfeld will retire from Chanel after his 30th anniversary in 2012 and be replaced by Alber Elbaz, whose position at Lanvin will then be filled by Oliver Theyskens. Lagerfeld retiring?? What? {Hint}

Alexa Weighs In: Alexa Chung addresses eating disorder rumors and her difficulty coping with the canceling of her MTV show in the latest issue of Elle. She says, “I am naturally very thin. I get even thinner when I’m stressed. And you cannot imagine how stressed I was last year.” {People Style Watch}

What is couture? Fashion Photog Rankin and a slew of designers ranging from Giorgio Armani to Erdem have collaborated on a coffee table book. Called Couture In the 21st Century, the book contains history, interviews and beautiful Rankin-shot portraits and seeks to answer the important question of what exactly couture means today. {InStyle UK}

Thom Browne’s Girl: Thom Browne will show womenswear for the first time in New York in February. “I’m ready now, I know what to do. The show will be very much like my menswear ones — not traditional,” the designer says. We can’t wait. {Vogue UK}

Amy Winehouse X Fred Perry: Amy Winehouse’s collaboration with Fred Perry will launch…some time soon. It will be inspired by the ’40s and ’50s and when asked what took so long, she explained, “I went through a lot of trouble with my ex-husband, so I had such a long time to think about the collection.” {Catwalk Queen}

Style Tips: The Dos And Donts Of Wearing Tights

*Sourced and edited by Dayana Sobri,
5th October 2010.

Cover up your legs in a proper yet fashionable way without looking like a retarded tramp....

DO consider the hue

1.DO consider the hue

With green tights, you could risk looking Peter Pan-ish. But Rachel Bilson’s extra-dark ones are fab.

DON’T revert back to childhood

2.DON’T revert back to childhood

Eighty-three percent of you say the white-ankle-socks-over-patterned-hosiery thing is a D.O.N.T.

DO dare to wear red

3.DO dare to wear red

A hounds-tooth coat with red peeking out underneath? It works.

DON’T mix and match

4.DON’T mix and match

Two-hue tights certainly make a statement—just a confusing one!

DO accessorize your look

5.DO accessorize your look

Those are some serious accessories, lady—and you’re definitely a Do!

DON’T be a hole-y roller

6.DON’T be a hole-y roller

Caution: Holes may cause hypothermia and a serious case of the Don’ts.

DO tone down the tights on a bright outfit

7.DO tone down the tights on a bright outfit

Neutral opaque gray is a good idea when the rest of your look pops like actress Madeline Zima’s.

DON’T forget to exercise restraint

8.DON’T forget to exercise restraint

When your hem is this mini, neutrals are the only answer.

Ready,get set,FUURR!!!

Fur Boots in Tokyo

Ok,so this news will totally put PETA on a hot seat.Imagine almost every fashion-conscious people in Japan are now sporting the fur get-up,right from fur coat,leg warmers,to boots.It was reported that the trend started mushrooming in the window displays of a few shops in Tokyo by late summer this year.By the time fall had officially arrived, the trend had spread to just about every type of clothing store in Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Harajuku.

There are many different type of fur footwear on display at the shops around Tokyo,and the focus on the biggest trend item in this article is fur boots. However, even though they call it fur boots, it’s actually not just boots, but the look of fur boots that is the hottest right now. Confused? Don’t be! The trick is that many girls are wearing fur covers or furry leg warmers that make their non-fur boots – or even their sandals or random high heels – look like fur boots.

Shocking News: Brad Bids Farewell To Rachel Zoe & co

*Sourced and edited by Dayana Sobri,
30th September 2010.

Is the super talented Rachel Zoe heading to Doomsville without her assistant?

It’s the end of an era. Brad Goreski, Rachel’s one and only, has made the decision to leave Team Rachel Zoe, effective October 1. The split was amicable, according to People Magazine. Brad explained, “I love Rachel and she’s taught me everything I know. But there’s a point where either I do it now or I’ll never know what it’s like to spread my wings and soar.”

We feel you Brad, and we have to say we’re not entirely surprised. There was a lot of foreshadowing in last week’s episode of The Rachel Zoe Project. Speaking of which, how will that show go on without Brad or Taylor? And, um, how will Rachel live? She laments, “No one’s ever going to be Brad to me.”

No one will ever be Brad to us either Rachel, but we’re excited to see what he can do on his own. And we hope he has plenty of time to spend with his dogs and boyfriend. Plus, maybe this will be good for Rachel and Rodger, who had to have been at least a little jealous of Brad.

Shopping Guide: What Department Store Salespeople Won't Tell You

*Sourced and edited by Dayana Sobri,
29th September 2010.

Want in on some industry secrets some editors have learned from years of experience as salespeople in major department stores? Here’s your inside look at 17 popular store policies and procedures from behind employee doors that employees are not allowed—or inclined—to share with shoppers!

1. No More Panty Raids, Please

We spent an hour folding that panty table. Please don’t pull out every single pair to see if it’s your size. We likely have drawers below the table or hanging displays elsewhere where you can find your size. If you simply must touch the display, please leave it the way you found it if you want to stay on our good sides.

2. Remember, You’re Not at Home

Ask for help instead of climbing a ladder or using any stick-like object you can find to grab something out of reach. We’d like to avoid injury and a lawsuit, as well as have the opportunity to assist you.

3. Calm Your Kids

Your screaming children are giving us a headache! We can’t leave the floor if we’re annoyed with your child, so do us a favor and take a timeout in one of our convenient and accommodating Mother’s Rooms, where you can calm your child down in peace and privacy.

4. Don’t Ask, Won’t Tell

We won’t tell you when we’re working on commission, so when you ask us if your butt looks fat in those jeans, we will respond as a salesperson, not your BFF. Trust your gut and if you think you look bad even if we say you don’t, keep looking.

5. Ask and You Shall Receive
We can help you shop in different departments than the one you found us in. Just ask!

6. Modesty is the Best Policy

We don’t want to see you naked. Sure, it’s an understood job hazard working in the swimsuit or lingerie department, but please try not to flash us inside your changing room.

7. Excuse Yourself, If Necessary

We notice when you pass gas in the fitting room and then leave. It’s gross. Don’t do it. We have to spend up to eight hours in there after you leave. Also, our changing rooms are not your own personal trashcans. Bring trash out with you, or hand it to us to dispose of.

8. Size Matters to Us, Too

If our store doesn’t have your size in stock, we can call another store for you. Just ask us politely!

9. Kindness Begets Kindness
If you’re making a scene because we don’t have what you want on the floor, we might go into the back, wait a couple minutes, and come out to tell you we don’t have it there either without ever looking for it.

10. Skip the Line if You Want
You can bring your items to another department if my line is too long.

11. Don’t Phone Home

Hang up your cell phone if you expect good—or any—service.

12. Say No to Stains
We can send a stained item to our alterations department to see if it comes out before you buy it.

13. See if the Price is Right
If you’ve seen the same item sold at a cheaper price somewhere else, we can lower our price to match it. You’ll have to speak to our manager, but it’s worth a shot to get a better deal!

14. Try to Get a DiscountPolitely
Sometimes, we can give you a discount on damaged goods, as long as you catch us in a good mood and you’re asking nicely.

15. Just Say No to Credit

Say no to our credit card pitches if you know you won’t pay off the bill each month. Yes, we have a quota to meet, but our store cards might not have the best interest rates around.

16. Humor Us and You Might Score
We can ship your items to you for free if we’re feeling generous and you’ve been pleasant to serve. At certain stores, we’ll even hand carry your purchase to you if you need it ASAP. Similarly, if you’re shopping far away from home and don’t want to lug your items back with you, we can sometimes ship them to your final destination.

17. Wear if You Dare
We’ve seen that shirt tried on a million times, we’ve scrubbed deodorant stains off of it, it’s fallen on our dusty floor, and it may even be one that was recently returned. For you own sake, wash it before you wear it!

P/s: Wow,I can SO relate to how these sales people are feeling since I've worked as sales assistant myself.Believe me customers are our number 1 source of agony,pain and headache!Not to mention that standing on my feet for hours and hours the whole day is a killer,especially if you're doing a full-time shift!So next time you're out shopping,at least have some common courtesy to be nice and respect the sales people.They're human beings too,you know!Not just some slaves you can torture around.Of course,as a customer myself,I'd get irritated by how bad the Malaysian sales people are,they're rude,lazy,did not do a proper job when assisting customers,and worst (according to my experience) some of them would snicker at customers who walked in their store and then started to whisper at each other about how the customers look and would ignore the customers when they need some help.

Fashion Getta Clue: Was Gabourey Sidibe's skin lightened for the cover of ELLE Magazine?

*Sourced and edited by Dayana Sobri,

The lighter and the darker............

In the world of American fashion magazines, women of color have notoriously been underrepresented, pretty much since the birth of print. Ditto the plus-size population, who go almost entirely absent from the pages of big-name publications, as if they don't exist. So it was a boon for both groups this summer when ELLE magazine announced that full-figured African-American actress Gabourey Sidibe would grace the cover of its 25th anniversary issue.

For its special October edition, ELLE produced four separate covers, each one meant to celebrate a different mid-20's female star--in addition to Sidibe, 27, it included actresses Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox and reality star/fashion entrepreneur Lauren Conrad. But here's where things got tricky:

While each of the other three (all oft-used, not to mention skinny and Caucasian) cover girls are shown off in full-body glamour shots wearing stylish clothes, Sidibe is cropped at the mid-chest, with a swath of ruched green fabric hiding her curvy frame. Plus, her skin appears to be lighter than in most photos of the actress that we've seen, which has stirred reactions on the web.

Was it all only a speculation by the unfair media,or is it a truth yet to be told?You be the judge.
