Adventures in Copyright: Say “Tsk Tsk” to Miu Miu

Spring 2010 sparked a bit of Miu Miu mania, so it’s not surprising that many people have ripped off Ms. Prada’s fanciful collection.

However, back in the fall of 2008, Roberto Cavalli used a similar quirky print motif throughout his Just Cavalli show.

While Miuccia’s prints ran the gamut from cats to dogs to naked people, Roberto stuck to flamingos. Even though that aspect of the design differs, it’s evident that the navy and white color scheme and a number of the details are shockingly similar. If you look very closely, you can even see the flamingo cut-out on the collar of the Cavalli dress.

Could it be that instead of our usual scolding of others for stealing Miuccia’s ideas, we should be calling her out?

First Look: Mark Fast for Topshop

Mark Fast for Topshop will finally hit stores June 25! Fast used his SS09 ready-to-wear collection as inspiration for the five-piece line, which ranges from ₤85 for a skirt to ₤150 for a dress, (that translates to about $100 and $185, respectively).

Set your eyes out for the lilac crochet dress covered in tiny holes, but the real star is quite obviously the black long-sleeved dress with matte, rubberized beading. There’s also a pale pink skirt–perhaps for the less daring–and a black sleeveless dress that almost shimmers.

The question is: Will you put down some cash for Fast?

Marc Jacobs Resort: Jackie O’ and Coco!

Most fashionistas adored Marc Jacobs’ FW2010 collection,

This a huge collection for Marc–particularly because he doesn’t do Pre-Fall. It’s in the stores longer than any either Fall or Spring, so there’s a lot of product for buyers to choose from.

Aside from the 38 looks, essentially every piece comes in at least two or three colorways.

Most pieces were pastel, with some brights mixed in. It was all very ’60s–very Jackie O’, with hints of late-day Coco Chanel.

Absolutely loved the floral lace frocks, as well as the molded circle hems–carried over from the autumn collection. You gotta love the prim, pointy flats and kitten heels. But most of all, the abundance of polka dots! There were polka dots everywhere! On skirts, blouses, jackets and formal dresses.

And if Marc says it’s the season of the polka dot, it must be. He does know a thing or two about great clothes.
